About West Branch

Welcome to West Branch!

West Branch is a growing community in southeast Iowa with many places to shop, live, dine and visit. An inviting town for all ages, the community takes pride in its architectural and cultural heritage and historic downtown, where 14 buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

West Branch takes pride in its progressive, dynamic identity and active, spirited residents. Prioritizing both its significant past and rich present, West Branch is a diverse city, as is evident with its annual Christmas Past event and Hoover’s Hometown Days festival.

In addition to new residential development occurring in Pedersen Valley, the Meadows, Lynch Heights and Cookson Subdivisions, West Branch is currently attracting new businesses in the West Branch Industrial Park. Located on I-80, the West Branch Industrial Park is home to several companies including Altorfer, Inc., Procter and Gamble, Plastic Products, Tidewater, Brown's Motor Sales, and Wausau. West Branch is also a Main Street Iowa city.

West Branch is the birthplace of Herbert C. Hoover, the 31st President of the United States. Visitors enjoy the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library-Museum and the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and Prairie.

The City's premier event of the year is Hoover's Hometown Days, which will be celebrated on August 4-5, 2017. The event features the Mayor's Parade, entertainment, food and drink on Main Street, in the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and at the West Branch Fire Department, free inflatable rides in the Village Green, and a fabulous fireworks display.
